<itunes:summary>Swoop’s World Radio is a Southern California Internet radio show that is equal parts arts, culture and party. Each week Swoop, Peter and the crew tap into the So Cal lifestyle with interviews of the unique personalities making news.

Guests have included politicians and community activists, independent filmmakers and Academy-award winning actress Yancy Butler, rock and roll icon Grace Slick and emerging indie musicians, authors, artists, Olympic athletes and more. The topics are as varied as the guest list, but the goal is always the same — to keep the conversation entertaining and the debates insightful.

After the interview, stick around for the ever-popular Brewskis! Swoop and Peter are joined by CLiv and TBone for a weekly on-air beer-tasting where the guys tell you what they really think about some of America's great (and not-so-great) craft beers. Peter lends his culinary acumen with a list of food paring ideas for each beer.

The party continues with TBone on Sports and Weird News of the Day. With "primetime" officially over, the guys get rough and rowdy. The comedic discussions go on late into the night or until the beer runs out.</itunes:summary>

Saxophonist Jeff Kashiwa Performs Benefit Concert Fundraiser Supports Long Beach Area Nonprofit Youth Jazz Program

World-famous saxophonist Jeff Kashiwa will perform Saturday, Sept. 24, at a concert to benefit the Jazz Angels, a Long Beach-based nonprofit jazz education program for young musicians ages 11-17.

The event, Boplicity 2011, will take place on the campus of Cal State Long Beach at the Gerald Daniel Recital Hall. The concert begins at 6:45 p.m.

Grammy-nominated Kashiwa, a Smooth Jazz artist known for his stirring sax solos and popular compositions, is expected to perform works from his six CDs that span a professional career of more than 20 years. The concert is an opportunity to hear the Seattle native — one of the most in-demand jazz musicians and a member of The Rippingtons featured at the Montreux and North Sea jazz festivals — perform at his alma mater. His current projects include touring with his most recent band, the Sax Pack, a collaboration of Kashiwa and fellow signature sax players Steve Cole and Kim Waters.

“Jeff Kashiwa is one of the brightest stars on the contemporary jazz scene,” said Barry Cogert, Executive Director of the Jazz Angels. “This event is a chance to enjoy the artistry of an A-list musician while supporting a program that immerses kids in jazz and promotes the self-confidence and leadership skills characteristic of this uniquely American musical art form.”

At Boplicity 2011, Kashiwa will perform with an all-star band made up of fellow friends of the Jazz Angels. The group includes Albert Alva (saxophone), Tom Bevan (guitar), Karen Hammick (piano), Rosy Rosenquist (drums), Mark Barnes (keyboards) and Cogert (bass).

In addition to live jazz, Boplicity 2011 will feature an auction and dessert. Tickets are $25.

A VIP reception with Kashiwa will precede the concert. Tickets are $50 and include hors d’oeuvres, wine and soft drinks, and preferred concert seating. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets are available at www.jazzangel.org. Seating is limited.

On Wednesday June 8, 2011, 8pm-11pm/PST on Swoop’s World Late Night our guest is Music Producer Ruwanga Samath. Then we’re taking on all topics, as well as any other news of the day. Tune in at Swoopsworld.com.

Music producer Ruwanga Samath is starting summer as one of the hottest producers in Hollywood. So far in 2011, Samath has produced the end title song for the Vin Diesel-propelled # 1 action movie of the year “Fast & Furious 5” (grossing over ¼ billion dollars worldwide); a mash up for Morgan Spurlock’s documentary POM Wonderful Presents “The Greatest Movie Ever Sold”; scripting the theme for the History Channel’s highest rated premiere of “Mounted in Alaska”; and providing the song “Break the Law” for TLC’s “Unleashed: K9 Broward County”, stamping Samath’s The Birdcall Productions as this year’s “go-to” producer of high-quality movie and television fare. It’s his versatility that keeps him in demand for action movies, documentaries and reality TV, but Ruwanga Samath and The Bird Call Productions take music even further. Samath brings a unique element to hip-hop and pop music for the screen by working alongside cream of the crop icons such as legendary rapper Busta Rhymes; international superstar Don Omar and rapper J-Doe (“How We Roll,” the end title song on “Fast & Furious 5”)’ and Outkast’s Big Boi (with co-producers Matt & Kim on “Camera Buggin’,” the end title song for “The Greatest Movie Ever Sold”). his success is no fluke. In 2007, Samath won the prestigious LA Music Award for his work on the “Saw 4” movie soundtrack, (Collinz Room’s “Just Another Day”).

Listen to the interview

Ruwanga Samath founded The Bird Call Productions in 2003 at age 18. Since then, Samath has completed production for major artists such as Beyonce, Britney Spears, Kelly Rowland, Flo Rida, Ke$ha, Norah Jones, The Virgins, and more.

During the 2008 presidential campaign, The Bird Call Productions put together the song “Make it to the Sun” for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. The song, urging voters to use their vote to make a change, received widespread recognition throughout the campaign.

An avid gamer, Samath ventured into the video game world with placements on “The Agency” (Sony), which was nominated for a 2009 Hollywood Music Award. He also sat on SESAC’s “Get Your Game On” panel for an in-depth discussion on the future of the video game world.

Hailing from Sri Lanka to parents who are still very involved in music — His mother, Renuka, was a popular Sri Lankan musician– Samath’s compositions/tracks are unique and innovative. Sri Lanka is heavily influenced by the European and reggae scenes; filtered through an all-encompassing hip-hop, pop and R&B environment since his family’s move to California in 1997, Ruwanga Samath has evolved a sound that now stands on its own.

The remainder of 2011 will see such exciting Ruwanga Samath and The Bird Call Productions releases that include “Mind the Gap” for the upcoming movie “The Good Fight”, music for the new “Deal or No Deal” workout video and the Eric Roberts Christmas film “Christmas in Compton.”

After our interview with Ruwanga Samath we’ll be up to all of our usual fun including beer tasting, sports and food during “Brewskis” Beer Tasting sponsored by DrinksWinesSpirits.com, Taylor’s segment of T-Bones Timeout, and Chris’ CLiv’s Late Night Snackins.

This week on “Brewskis” Beer Tasting sponsored by DrinksWinesSpirits.com, we are tasting Sea Dog Hazelnut Porter from Portland, Maine based Pugsley Brewing Co.

This beautifully written book delves into the mysteries and questions that, after almost 30 years, still surround the death of Natalie Wood, one of Hollywood’s most beloved actresses.

Goodbye Natalie Goodbye Splendour is the poignant story of a young, cavalier adventurer, Dennis Davern, who landed the position of Splendour Captain and how the Wagner family welcomed him into their hearts and home. The death of Natalie Wood in 1981 sent shock waves throughout the world and remained an enduring mystery. Dennis reached out to his friend Marti. Her mission to substantiate Dennis’s account led her on a personal quest for truth that spanned decades. Many of the lingering questions are solved.

Listen to the show

Join us as we have an opportunity to speak with Marti, who has investigated the death of Natalie Wood for many decades and uncovered some glaring inadequacies in the investigation. As well as shining a light on what some may say are the effects that the power of celebrity and privilege played in thwarting a thorough investigation.

After our interview with Marti Rulli, Lisa Hernandez of Long Beach Depot for Creative ReUse joins us to fill us in on the Pepsi Refresh Creative Reuse Day Celebration happening on February 27th.

Join us at 8pm(PST). Listeners can call in live (917) 889-7449 or join in via our online chat. Use the “Set a Reminder Function” now and you won’t miss a minute.

All of you know when Chris and Taylor are in the house it’s gonna lead to good times. We’ll be putting them to the test too! Because we want an Oktoberfest and it’s up to them to make that happen!

We’re sure you are going to love this episode. For the last few weeks we’ve previewed a couple or Raspin’s songs “We Do What We Do” and “Rumblin’ & Tumblin”. Having been recently chosen as part of the nationwide in-store music library, you may very well have heard “We Do What We Do” while standing in line at your local Starbucks. If you heard us on October First Friday’s you were briefly introduced to Raspin as we had a chance to speak to him for a few minutes prior to taking the stage.

Listen to the Raspin Stuwart interview

Raspin was born outside of Chicago, IL, and currently lives in the Hollywood Hills and has been living in the Los Angeles area for over 30 years. Raspin is a self-taught guitarist who has mastered the rhythm guitar. Shortly after his arrival in Los Angeles, he was signed by Marv Bornstein, A & M Records. “Hold On” was the first song to be placed, by Canadian artist, Richard Step, off his “Holiday in Hollywood” album, which was arranged by Grammy Award winner Jimmie Haskell. His musicial influences come from such great artists as: Louis Armstrong, Joni Mitchell, Harry Chapin, Cat Stevens, Dan Fogelberg, Bruce Springsteen, Bette Midler, Patty La Belle and Beethoven.

Raspin is a well-rounded, accomplished songwriter, vocalist and producer. His credits include: The opening track on the EAT’M Compilation disc, vocalist for the Wonder Years television series (“Catch The Wind” by Donavon and “Here Comes The Sun” by the Beatles), songwriter, lead vocal and producer of “Busy Sidewalks” for NBC’s Mark and Brian’s television series, and was the vocalist on “Bye, Bye Time”, a track submitted for, “Muppets In Space”. Raspin is the lead vocalist creating the voice-over character for K.C. Edgar, the movie villain. “Bye, Bye Time” was written and produced by Angela Lupino and Grammy Award winner Simon Franglen, producer and engineer of “My Heart Will Go On” (the love theme from the movie “Titanic” – Celine Dion) and most recently, “Avatar”. Raspin has represented such artists as Al Kasha, writer of “The Morning After”, and the legendary artist Richie Havens for movies and films. He also produced C.C.H. Pounder’s spoken word CD, “Smoke”, which actually made it to the ballot for a spoken-word Grammy.

Raspin has worked with such greats as David Frost, Richie Havens, Jane Fonda, David Holman (engineered all of the early hits for Olivia Newton-John), Larry Kuppin and Harry Sloane, owners of New World Pictures, Simon Franlen, C.C.H. Pounder and The Williams Brothers. He has performed at some of the most prestigious clubs, to include: B.B. King’s Blues Club, Universal City and City Walk, CA, The Troubadour, Hollywood, CA, My Place, Santa Monica, CA, The Earl of Old Town, Chicago, IL and Orphans, Chicago, IL, to name a few.

Raspin released his first CD, “We Do What We Do” and is getting rave critical review. His ten track CD, produced by Raspin, Roger LaRoque, and mixed by Jeff Gold; and mastered by legendary Bernie Grundman himself. This is an eclectic mix of some of Raspin’s favorite songs, accompanied by top-notch studio musicians and the legendary background vocals of TaTa Vega (the voice of Shug Avery in “The Color Purple”) and European star, Jonnie Fiori.

This week our guest is Robin Keeble. Swoop met Robin last year and found Robin to have one of the most remarkable life stories of overcoming a life that some may have witnessed and written off as worthless; A life that many have lived and written themselves off as worthless. Not Robin, she persevered.

Robin was a drug addict who prostituted herself or committed burglaries for money to buy heroin. Her habit kept her in and out of jail for 22 years.

In 1996 she was released from prison and homeless. She was in La Palma Park in Anaheim, sharing needles with other homeless junkies when an AIDS Outreach Project worker approached her and asked if she was hungry and if she had a safe place to sleep. He offered her a free HIV test, food vouchers and help getting into a drug rehabilitation program.

Since that time Robin has become sober, earned her Associate’s Degree in 2002, followed by a Bachelors Degree in Human Services in 2005 and Master’s in Public Health from Cal State Fullerton in 2008. Along the way she’s received recognition, awards and garnered the admiration of the faculty of various institutions.

Robin is the director of the AKA Angels; A women’s civic group that meets quarterly in support of women that have been released from incarceration. The goal of the AKA Angels is to offer support during transition and community integration. She is also involved with Community Advisory Representatives; a peer based mentoring group for those incarcerated in the Orange County Jail system.

This doesn’t begin to tell the wonderful story of Robin Keeble, the road she’s traveled and the work she does. Tune in and learn more about this beautiful soul who says “…If you believe you deserve a better life, you can make it happen.”

Also the Boys from LB Food Review are back! After trips to Boston, Tahoe, and who knows where this past month, Chris Livingston and Taylor Nelson, have decided to return to the LBC. Well isn’t that special! A segment that is sure to be abounding with laughter.

With the abundance of medical marijuana dispensaries popping up throughout various cities and counties we decided to delve into the dilemma politicians are facing and sometimes-hypocritical debates that take place.

We all have heard and seen the stories of city governments licensing and allowing the dispensaries to open, only to vote a year or so later to close most of them down, and highly taxing those that are allowed to remain open.

It seems that some cities have decided to accept the fact that these businesses are medical facilities but for the purpose of hopefully charging the owners and potential owners exorbitant application and licensing fees in an effort to help create quick revenue and potentially solve budget deficits.

We are teaming up with LB Food Review, a couple of light-hearted critics intent on eating their way through the best restaurants of Long Beach. Together we will produce bi-monthly segments about the local restaurant and bar scene that will air exclusively on Swoop’s World.

Talk show hosts Swoop Lewis and Peter Dopulos announced the partnership with Taylor Nelson and Chris Livingston, saying that the first LB Food Review spot on Swoop’s World will launch Wednesday, March 31.

“It just seems like the perfect mix,” said Swoop host of the show. “We were already looking to incorporate a lifestyle focus to our show. Taylor and Chris are already out there doing something really cool in the community.”

Co-host Peter agreed, adding, “When we met the guys I knew we would do something together, we are all out there trying to do the same thing—spread the word about Long Beach—and we all had this good vibe going on.”

The addition of the LB Food Review segment will fit right in with the already wide range of topics Swoop’s World tackles weekly. Past shows have included interviews with political candidates and community leaders, artists, musicians, and others.

When asked about the new partnership, Chris said, “It’s just a natural fit. Swoop’s World and LB Food Review both aim to spread the word and support the local businesses of the city of Long Beach. I’m amazed we didn’t run into each other sooner.”

“We are very excited to bring our focus on Long Beach’s food culture to the Swoop’s World listeners,” Taylor stated. “The art and live music scene of Long Beach is so intertwined with the bars and restaurants of the city that we feel we have a lot to contribute.”

Swoop’s World Radio is broadcast live on the Internet every Wednesday night from 9:00pm–10:30pm (PST) on BlogTalkRadio.com. Visit http://www.blogtalkradio.com/swoopsworld for show listings and a calendar of remote broadcasts. All shows are archived on the site and can also be downloaded on iTunes.

Taylor and Chris founded LB Food Review in 2008 to express their dedication to the community spirit of Long Beach. They are both passionate supporters of the movement to discover and support the unique local culture of the Long Beach area through its restaurants and eateries. It all started with the online publication http://www.lbfoodreview.com but it encompasses much more than just a website. LB Food Review is about meeting the neighbors that share a passion for this city and what it has to offer, hosting gatherings at local favorites across the culinary and geographic landscape of Long Beach. Whether they are awarding the Readers’ Choice for Best Breakfast, organizing a pub crawl in one of Long Beach’s distinct neighborhoods, or simply dropping in on a family-owned trattoria with 40 of their closest friends, LB Food Review aims to get the people of Long Beach to enjoy their city together.

Peter and Swoop Broadcasting live from First Friday’s Long Beach

On Friday March 5th we took our Long Beach Radio show out of the studio and back on the road for a live broadcast from First Friday’s Long Beach in Bixby Knolls. This was our second time broadcasting from First Friday’s. In February we had a great time doing the show from Nino’s Italian Restaurant. This Month we headed over to the Michelle Mangione, Singers and Songwriters event at the Mirage Cafe in Bixby Knolls.

Listen to the show

There was a lot of energy in the room as musician Kern Richards and his band got the audience pumped up for a night of great music and fun interviews. Swoop and Peter brought an energetic vibe to the lounge area and were able to interview both Mangione and Richards during a break in the action. Many of the guests that arrived to enjoy in the music also sat down at the mic and shot the breeze with the radio hosts.

Swoop’s World Radio can be heard live every Wednesday night 9pm-10: 30pm PST on BlogTalk Radio. Swoop’s World Radio is an Internet radio show focused on Long Beach, CA. Information about show, as well as archived episodes can always be found on Swoop’s World website or on iTunes.
