In the wake of the recent BP oil disaster, rock-and-roll icon Grace Slick and Los Angeles songwriter Michelle Mangione have joined forces on a new song released this week that brings together musicians from across the US to raise money for aid to Louisiana. The GRAMMY Museum has partnered with the artists, lending its support for the track, The Edge of Madness, in order to benefit fishermen and musicians in the areas hardest hit by the disaster.

Tune in Thursday morning @ 9am (PST) as Grace Slick and Michelle Mangione join Swoop’s World to discuss The Edge of Madness, the inspiration behind the song, and what can be done to help the people of Louisiana. Those are some of the things we know we’ll talk about, but of course with this line up who knows where it all will lead.

The Yokoji-Zen Mountain Center retreat is located on 160 acres of pristine wilderness in the local San Jacinto Mountains.  The center is off-grid, operating primarily on solar energy and wind generators. Yokoji plans to establish a city center in the Long Beach area that will function harmoniously together with its current mountain retreat center.

Wayu has received Denkai (Precept Holder) Transmission from Tenshin Roshi.  And Tenshin Roshi received his dharma transmission from Taizan Maezumi Roshi–one of the early Japanese teachers to bring Zen to the West in the 60′s.  Denkai is the first step towards becoming an official Zen teacher, or sensei.  Wayu is also a certified teacher of Chanoyu (Japanese Tea Ceremony) from the Uresenke School, Kyoto, Japan.

Also on Wednesday, we will be introducing our new segment with Taylor Nelson and Chris Livingston, of LB Food Review, a couple of light-hearted critics intent on eating their way through the best restaurants of Long Beach. Together we will produce bi-monthly segments about the local restaurant and bar scene that will air exclusively on Swoop’s World.

On Friday night at 8pm PST, Swoop’s World takes to the road again, joining Michelle Mangione and broadcasting from her performance at the Mirage Mediterranean Grill. This marks another return to First Friday’s to broadcast live from a participating venue.

Swoop’s World Radio and Everything Long Beach will host a collection center at the Mirage Mediterranean Grill during First Friday’s. Anyone wishing to give the gift of an Easter Basket and help in the efforts to donate 1,500 completed, essential-filled Easter baskets for underserved Long Beach-area youth may drop them off during the show. All baskets collected will be delivered to Justin Rudd for Operation Easter Basket.

Peter and Swoop Broadcasting live from First Friday’s Long Beach

On Friday March 5th we took our Long Beach Radio show out of the studio and back on the road for a live broadcast from First Friday’s Long Beach in Bixby Knolls. This was our second time broadcasting from First Friday’s. In February we had a great time doing the show from Nino’s Italian Restaurant.  This Month we headed over to the Michelle Mangione, Singers and Songwriters event at the Mirage Cafe in Bixby Knolls.

There was a lot of energy in the room as musician Kern Richards and his band got the audience pumped up for a night of great music and fun interviews.  Swoop and Peter brought an energetic vibe to the lounge area and were able to interview both Mangione and Richards during a break in the action. Many of the guests that arrived to enjoy in the music also sat down at the mic and shot the breeze with the radio hosts.
