On Wednesday July 11, 2012 at 8pm/PST (11pm/EST) we welcome Alamantra to Swoop’s World. Join us as we get to know Alamantra and their music! After our interview we’ll be up to all of our usual fun with our Brewskis beer tasting segment, TBones Timeout, followed by our take on all topics, as well as any interesting news of the day. Swoop’s World Late Night is on from 8pm/PST – 11pm/PST tune in at Swoopsworld.com.

Alamantra
Alamantra is a seasoned live band that plays originals and covers. Their music ranges from classic blues — to classic rock –to free-form improvisations. Alamantra blends these genres while sprinkling in shades of jazz, reggae and alt. country along the way.The band strives to make each song a unique experience shared with the audience.

Alamantra’s sound is composed of the psychedelic-drenched blues-driven guitar-weaves of Steve Casteel and Bobby Shiflett that flow up from pockets of groove mad by bassist-vocalist, Rick Glaze and drummer, Brandon Allison.

Originally formed in Birmingham Alabama in 2000, as a vehicle for an extensive collection of music from songwriter/guitarist Bobby Shiflett, Alamantra’s musical journey has taken it through a long, sometimes agonizing, enriching process of musical development. The original lineup featured Bobby Shiflett: Guitar, Keyboards & Vocals; Ken Shiflett: Drums; Andrew Reid: Bass & Vocals. These three had worked together in various projects since 1993. Over the past decade numerous other musicians and artists have shared their talents with Alamantra as well; and each has added his or her special, sustaining influence in the music.

Alamantra’s latest effort, “Workingman’s Bread,” is a culmination of musical energies that combine the band with some of the best talent in the Magic City. In addition to the four core members of Alamantra, “Workingman’s Bread” also features the vocal talents of Kenneth Robinson (Jive Mob, George Clinton, Smokey Robinson), vocalist/rapper Carlito Jackson (Jive Mob, Deep End), Royal and Toulouse chanteuse, Milyn Satterfield, pedal steel wunderkind, Pete Nice (Electroliner, The Saturdays and nephew of the late, great Kurt Vonnegut), guitar virtuoso Tim Boykin (Carnival Season, Barking Tribe, Shame Idols, Topper Price etc), Joel Smith (Happy Lemmy), keyboard wizard, Derek Nolin and MANY others. Thanks to the brilliant production of Brad Timko, the result is a masterful creation of unique, stylistic original music that puts forth the very best of what Birmingham has to offer.

After our interview with Alamantra, we’ll be up to all of our usual fun including “BrewskisBeer Tasting sponsored by DrinksWinesSpirits.com, sports talk, rants and more.

This week we’ll be tasting Deep South Pale Ale by Lazy Magnolia Brewing Co. located in Kiln, Mississippi.
